Daikanyama Area Overview
The area is best described as a refined and calm cityscape. Its main streets are dotted with stylish shops and cafes, with a spacious traditional upper-class residential area lying a single step beyond the street.
This area was developed around Daikanyama Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line. The commercial complex facilities of “Daikanyama Address” and the tower apartment “Daikanyama Address The Tower” were redeveloped adjacent to the station and act as landmarks of the area. The train tracks of Tokyu Toyoko Line was recently constructed to go underground between Shibuya Station and Daikanyama Station. This allowed new development in the areas where the tracks were, leading to the building of new commercial facilities in the area.
Along Kyu (old) Yamate Dori Street, many luxurious boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops are scattered about the area. There are also multi-complex buildings such as ‘Daikanyama Hillside Terrace’ that include residences, shops, and public institutions, along with ‘Daikanyama T-Site’ which is home to a Tsutaya Book Store and other specialty shops. Some embassies can be found throughout the area adding to its international atmosphere. There are famous gardens such as Saigoyama Park and Sugekari Park which are the main pieces of urban greenery within the area.
Away from the main streets, there are traditional luxurious residential neighborhoods including Aobadai and Nanpeidai and are many luxury rental apartments for expats. Thanks to the comfort of the living environment, Daikanyama has always been ranked high as one of everyone’s favorite towns to live in.
